Quality Left Handed Fabric Scissors Feb 15, 2007
By John Rene Lastre
"Statman"
I purchased these scissors for an upholestry class I am taking. I really did not want to deal with using right handed scissors to cut fabric as I have problems cutting paper right handed, so I thought I should make the investment in left handed scissors. I actually first purchased a pair of Wiss shears from another vendor. I quickly returned these to the vendor as Wiss only CONTOURS their shears for left hand (thus they are left HANDLED not left handed). I know of only three vendors of true left handed 10" fabric shears: Mundial, Gingher, and one other sold by a specialty store for over $100.
Mundial is made in Brazil but was at one time made in Germany. Their kitchen cutlery, of which they specialize, in general is concidered good but perhaps not as premium as some other makers. The shears arrived on time in a cardboard box. The shears were set in a custom shape "French" cut out made of dense foam. The shears are hot forged, the quality of the nickel finish was excellent, Japaning was fair to good, the acid wash etching of the Mundial makers mark was also excellent, and most importantly the blades have a knife edge. All in all I would say the apparence is better then Wiss. Mundial also has a Stay Set pivot system but I have not found the need to adjust the "ride" of the cut.
The shears seem to cut well, true, and easily although I have not cut much fabric with them as of yet. I would stay they that as far as being comfortable for a left hander I could not be happier. I can not venture a guess as to how they compare to Gingher although I have heard their 10" lefty shears are also nice.

A pleasure to use Aug 16, 2008

Lefties raised in a right-handed world learn to make do. Indeed we learn to do more with our right hand than righties can do with their left. Alas, cutting with quality shears was not among them for me. Learning sewing and upholstery I need to be able to cut accurately and cleanly. Right handed shears hinder this since the cutting line is on the outside of the left hand and hence away from your body. I couldn't see the cutting line. A right handed person would not notice this because the cutting line is on the inside of their hand, immediately in front of their body. With these true left handed shears I no longer have this problem.
There is an added bonus when I purchase these shears. I loande these shears to a fellow student who is a righty. It was interesting to watch as they learned the frustration I have lived with in because I'm in my right brain.
But seriously, the shears are very well made. They are heavy enough to cut upholstery with no special effort and finely made enough to cut jersey with no tares. I've used them for about six month of moderate use as I have being learning sewing and upholstery. I feel they are worth the price. Based upon my experience they are durable.

Lefties! There's hope for Us! Jun 05, 2010

Heavy duty, heavy weight trimmers for the left-handed person, but not for folks who have lost strength in their hands or wrists. I highly recommend them for trimming just about anything. The "bent" feature is superior. I never knew, as a lefty, that things could be cut so easily, without SQUEEZING the sissors to make them work smoothly! Yes, they are INDUSTRIAL. They will RUST so be careful of moisture. Clean after every use please! Buy these for yourself or for a friend. A great Chrismtas present for the lefty who has everything! Buy it even if you already have left handed sisssors. More than one pair would be appreciated for difference rooms in the house.

By Kashyap Palicha Arrived in a nice case. Was a gift for someone. I just could not tell if it was or was not left handed but I think it was. The packaging seemed to suggest it is made in Brazil.
